<p>This review examines the features and functionality of the MultiDriveRecorder2 application, a comprehensive event data recorder designed for vehicular use. The app introduces a new HUD mode, which overlays driving information directly onto the recording screen, mimicking a head-up display. This mode presents essential metrics such as a prominent speedometer in the center, along with date and time, battery status, driving distance, duration, and temperature. Users can activate this feature by maintaining their device’s position visible within the windshield area. Note that this overlay does not reflect onto the vehicle's front glass and functions solely as an on-screen display; it is not a true head-up display. The recording feature remains active during HUD mode. Temperature data is sourced from OpenWeatherMap and may fluctuate without notice. Compatibility is limited to iPhone 5 and later models.

The application extends beyond basic recording with features acclaimed in previous versions, such as event detection based on shock sensors. It captures footage one minute before and after an impact, utilizing the iPhone’s acceleration sensor to monitor sudden movements. The high-resolution camera ensures detailed playback quality, and the interface displays useful driving information like maps, speedometers, acceleration data, and Twitter timelines to assist drivers throughout their journey.

Adjustability includes automatic screen rotation between portrait and landscape modes, facilitating ease of use within various vehicle configurations. The app optimizes display sizes for different iPhone models, from the 4S up to the 6+, ensuring consistent usability across devices.

The core functionalities encompass manual and automatic recording options, video quality selection specific to resolution (ranging from 480x640 to 1920x1080), frame rate at 30fps, manual focus capability, audio recording, snapshot capture, video playback, and exporting options to PC, camera roll, or Dropbox. Additional support features include map overlays, speed metrics, music playback controls, Twitter integration, G-Force sensors, personal data management, and CSV export of recorded information.

Video recordings consume significant storage space; approximate sizes per hour are provided for different resolutions—1.5GB at 640x480, 4.5GB at 1280x720, and 7.5GB at 1920x1080.

Compatibility extends to multiple iPhone models starting from the 4S and requires iOS 7.1 or higher. Users should be mindful of device heating under direct sunlight and power consumption during extended recordings; connection to a power source is advised. Incoming calls or emails interrupt and auto-save ongoing recordings. Network connection is necessary for map features. Devices lacking GPS may experience limited tracking accuracy.

The app automatically halts recording when free disk space drops below 1GB; performance may vary based on environmental conditions.
